No need to worry, in the Charlotte area call Dennis: Whatever you do, DON'T KILL A SNAKE without calling us first!Snakes are an important part of our ecosystem here in Charlotte. We remove snakes without killing them. We can also advise you on how to discourage snakes in your home or business. Call us for a consultation appointment or fill out the form to the right. Mecklenburg county has only one species of venomous snake, the Copperhead. In our experience, many people who claim to be knowledgeable about snakes mistakenly identify any snake that is brown as a copperhead. There are at least 7 "brown" species of snake in the Charlotte area that we have seen identified as "Copperheads", "Black Copperheads", "Baby Copperheads", or "Rattlers". Copperheads are very easy to identify once you learn what to look for. Please do not assume a snake is a Copperhead Cottonmouth, or Rattlesnake without looking at a Identification guide. Many Times we can ID a snake as harmless over the phone. If you would like to see a comprehensive list of North Carolina snakes courtesy of Davidson College Click HERE! There are NO naturally occurring Rattlesnakes or Cottonmouths (Water Moccasins) in the Charlotte/Mecklenburg area. A Recent Presentation:
I want to thank Dennis & Christian of Snake Removal for the presentation
they gave to BSA Troop 70. With camping and outdoor weather upon us the
Scouts were eager to learn ways to identify the snakes we will undoubtedly
come across on camping trips. Dennis and Christian, I want to thank each
of you for your time and professionalism in the presentation and display of the
snakes you brought along for the event. You answered everyone's questions and I
truly feel the Scouts have a better understanding of snakes and their
habits. Handling the snakes was an exciting and enjoyable adventure as
well. I would HIGHLY recommend your presentation
to other groups. With outdoor activities increasing in the coming months
I am sure any group you speak with will come away a better understanding and
appreciation of how snakes interact and serve us in our environment. Putting snake prejudice aside is not going
to be easy. Keeping in mind the examples of what you told us about the breeding
rate of rodents vs. snakes is something we won't soon forget. Again, thank you for your time, your
presentation and especially for your dedication to educating the public
about snakes. Jeff Hall, BSA
